The menu of a typical Nigerian wedding usually has some traditional food that represents the culture of both the bride and the groom. Even if you’re not from the North but you just want to add variety to your wedding menu, these Northern Nigerian foods are delicious and easy to make.

Try these delicacies for your wedding menu:

Masa/Waina (rice cakes)

Masa is made from ground rice fried in balls or flat like a pancake. The meal can be served with a variety of vegetable sauces or spicy chili. Your guests will want more and more, which is great because it’s also very easy to pack into takeaway plates.

Suya (grilled spiced meat)

Suya is originally from the North, even though it has become popular all over the country. Still, nothing beats soft, tender, well-spiced grilled meat with lots of chili pepper. Suya is served as small chops, usually with cabbage, onions and mixed chili pepper yaji. That’s a well-balanced meal right there.

Dambu (dried shredded meat)

Dambu is shredded, spiced dried meat. This snack is made from beef, lamb or even chicken. Your guests can snack before food is served, or it can even be packaged into small takeaway plates for them to eat later. Dambu keeps really well, so you do’t have to worry about it spoiling.

Kodon zogale (moringa salad)

Zogale is prepared with moringa leaves, groundnut paste, onions, tomatoes and spices. This salad is very filling and healthy.

Surprise and excite your wedding guests by putting these food on the menu.
