Wedding Stories is an ongoing series where OD9JA readers share their most interesting wedding experiences.
Being a bridesmaid is probably the most difficult role at a wedding, but I guess I didn’t get the memo. My contribution to the wedding stories series is my experience as a first-time bridesmaid. Never again!
The bride and I were childhood friends, so when she told me she was getting married, I was excited. When she told me the venue, my heart skipped at the distance but I was going to be there.

When she called to tell me that I was on the bridal train, I was too happy to realize that it meant I would spend more money. When I thought about it later, I decided it was worth it. Hopefully, her appreciation and smiles would pay off.
I began my journey to the wedding 2 days early because of the distance. At the wedding, I was so keen on helping out with anything she or her family needed.
Then just before the reception was to start, the bridesmaids needed to eat but nobody made any plans for us or the bride to eat. I volunteered to quickly go and buy food for the bride, and I left. While I was out, the bride texted me not to bother because someone was bringing food.

By the time I got back, they had brought food for everyone else and guess who didn’t have any food? Me! Nobody ‘remembered’ to keep food for me, after I’d done all I could to be helpful. I was so hungry and angry throughout the wedding because food kept appearing and disappearing, but each time, I was overlooked.
It was not a fun way to spend my friend’s wedding, and that day still annoys me whenever I remember it.
